Apple Launches The iPhone
Thursday, January 11th, 2007 at 19:10 by Michael PrestonI’ve just watched the 2007 keynote speech, by Apple boss Steve Jobs, that took place at the Macworld Conference & Expo. The big announcement this year, as rumoured, was the Apple iPhone. It seems that, like they did in 1984 with the introduction of the Macintosh, then in 2001 with the iPod, once again Apple has changed the world.
Where can I start? Apple has essentially created a thing of beauty and I already want one. A phone, a widescreen iPod with proper web surfing capabilities, (not the normal pathetic WAP rubbish) all in the palm of your hand.
The industrial design is stunning. The unit has a high resolution, colour touch screen display, which looks just fabulous. There are several built in sensors that, automatically, make adjustments depending on how you’re using it. Turn it from portrait to landscape mode, the display adjusts the perspective. Walk into a dimly lit room, the brightness adjusts. Put the phone to your ear, the display turns off, so that you can’t inadvertently press a button and to save your battery at the same time. Brilliantly logical. Beautifully constructed.
The software platform is the best part in so many ways. It runs full Apple OS X. Yes, you did read that correctly. To all extents and purposes this is a Macintosh, in your hand, with all the functionality and incredible user friendlyness that goes with this. Wow!
Cool doesn’t even really get close to describing this phone. Like the iPod, it’s nothing less than a complete revolution. If you were to compare this phone to the development of tools, then I guess in a world of flint, it’s a laser.
iPhone is way, way better than anything that’s out there right now. I get a feeling that I’ve just seen the future and it has a small Apple logo on it.
Lastly, Steve, if you’re reading this, can I have one? Please?
