Portsmouth Top Premiership
Sunday, September 17th, 2006 at 11:48 by Stephen GilesIn a direct contravention of natural law, Harry Redknapp’s Portsmouth have taken top spot in the English premier league following a 1-0 victory at struggling Charlton.
Though Pompey’s lead may only last 24 hours, there has been a revolution at the previously relegation-haunted south coast club. Many observers feel Portsmouth’s early season success is due in no small part to Redknapp’s close season signing of a collection of former England internationals in their mid 30s.
The renaissance of David James, Sol Campbell and Andy Cole is being hailed as the biggest leap forward for veterans since Compo, Foggy and Clegg first decided to affix wheels to an old bathtub.

Go Pompey! After 60 plus years it’s time they had another chance at the Cup, specially after last season!

It’s well deserved, thus far, although we’ll see how long they can sustain it. Lest we not forget, Charlton had a great start last year.
