Sheep Poo Paperâ?˘
Monday, September 11th, 2006 at 21:30 by Rhys WilcoxAn innovative stationery company in Snowdonia has just been awarded a ÂŁ20k Millennium Award for making paper out of sheep dung.
The company, Creative Paper Wales, collects “super-fresh sheep poo” then sterilises it through a hot, high pressurised washing process. Half its mass gets washed away as sheep only digest 50% of their intake. What’s left is a load of usable cellulose fibres that get pulped and turned into paper and cardboard.
If that wasn’t eco-friendly (if not disgusting) enough then the by-product water solution is passed on as a concentrated fertiliser.
They create all kinds of greeting cards and stationery and will even make paper out of materials you send them. Yes, any kind of materials.
It kind of makes that yucky taste in the envelope gum pale into insignificance.
