Man Arrested As Sex Aid Is Mistaken For Bomb

Thursday, August 31st, 2006 at 13:39 by Sarah Malaise

An unfortunate traveller may end up regretting putting modesty above common sense, as he faces a potential three year prison sentence.

Mardin Amid, 29 was detained at Chicago O‚??Hare Airport when a security guard misheard his muttered explanation that the black rubber device in his luggage was a penis pump.

Mr Amid, who was due to travel to Turkey, was accompanied by his mother as his bag was searched, revealing the offending item. Trying to spare himself embarrassment and parental wrath, he whispered ‚??pump‚?Ě when asked what it was.

Unfortunately for Mr Amid, the security guard mistook this hasty exposition for the word ‚??bomb‚?Ě, with inevitable results. He was arrested and charged with felony disorderly conduct and is due to appear in court again on September 13th.

Mr Amid‚??s attorney described the incident as a misunderstanding, telling the Cook County judge,

‚??He’s standing with his mother. Of course he’s not going to shout this out.”

Eileen O‚??Neill-Burke also explained that as an Arabic speaker, her client had difficulty in distinguishing the difference between the ‚??b‚?? and ‚??p‚?? consonant sounds. However, the security guard testified that twice, she ‚??clearly‚?Ě heard the Iraqi defendant describe the object as a bomb.

Mr Amid asserted that there was nothing shameful or unusual about owning a penis pump and claiming that half the male population of the USA probably have one stuffed down the back of their sock drawers. His mum must be a formidable woman if he‚??d rather face the full force of US Homeland Security than own up to his little secret in front of her.

It was probably his mum’s and he was trying to protect her.
