The opinions from fans online seem to be:
Mark just played an member of the SAS (or something) and is looking pretty trim, but Nasir would have no reason to hang around for that long.
Praed would be brilliant (particularly in the Herne role). Some of his recent theatre has been really impressive too.
Connery would be a disaster, but depending on who you ask he was first time around as well.
Judi stilll looks fantastic! She's always chosen not to go back to acting, but an official sequel with a script by Kip would be something special.

The only thing I'd say about the new script is that some people are worried it doesn't actually have enough Robin in it. It's very templar-heavy, as the main characters and plot.

Totally with you on Praed, he'd be awesome.

Um, I saw Michael Praed in the flesh the other day, in fact i had a drink with him. No reason at all why he couldn't play Robin twenty-five years one ; he's grey haired but still very slim and has all his hair.He may not look 24 anymore but for goodness sake what do you expect a 46 year old man to look like?
However, Kip wanted Connery in the show as well, and oh dear, now he is going VERY bald, he would have to wear a wig. Mark Ryan is really fat, he has changed the most of all the cast--bald too; he could never play a lithe assassin anymore. Clive and Phil haven't changed too much, except for going grey. Judi Trott, the lucky thing, has hardly changed at all!
but re a new script by Kip--well,, having a version of an older Robin hood isn't unheard of--remember the Sean Connery movie 'Robin and marion'? Anything would be preferable to this gross revisionist history being foisted on us by the bbc!

I noticed that no-one actually got shot with arrows, either, which is a worrying sign. An entire series and no-one's going to get one in the chest. Hmmm. More Hercules than Xena, I think.

Well having watched the first ep it owes more to Xena Warrior Princess than Robin of Sherwood. All it lacked was the "No tree stumps were harmed during the making of this program"

It sounds depressingly like Sky's "The Noo Adventures of Rahb'nHood" from the late 90s. If speculation on 6 Music this morning is to be believed, we might never find out, as there is apparently no back-up of the master tape. I'd rather watch "Maid Marion and her Merry Men", anyway.

It would definitely be a "25 years on" story if they had most of the original cast :)

This new BBC series looks like it has a lot of shouting, swords thrown through the air and bullet-time arrow shots. I saw the trailer at the weekend and it prompted wild giggling from everyone in the room.

I met Clive Mantle (Little John) about ten years back and asked him when there was going to be another series. He said that he thought that the Merry Men were now all too old to be climbing trees!

Trying to resurrect the series with the same cast twenty years after it ended would only end up tarnishing the memories of the original. I mean, have you *seen* Michael Praed lately? I don't think he could pull off the make-up and mullet look any more...

Richard Carpenter said on Saturday that he's working on a new RoS script with heavy emphasis on the Templars, but that it's going to be difficult getting some of the original cast back (Ray Winstone for a start, I should think!)

He's also previously commented on having Michael Praed (with the same character) take over the Herne role...

"(There is an official sequel to â??Robin of Sherwoodâ?? being planned by the original writer, and it is not known whether the new series will hurt or help its chances of being made.)"

Richard Carpenter had been writing a fourth series of RoS in the 80s, but the project was shelved when the production company went out of business.

Being an occasional archery geek and an obsessive devotee of the Michael-Praed-in-tights-and-eyeliner version, I hope the Hungarians keep the tape. The only way a new Robin Hood series might be even the slightest bit watchable would be for the BBC to follow their Doctor Who pattern and stick David Tennant in the lead role.
