Microsoft’s Ricky Gervais Training Film Leaked

Thursday, August 24th, 2006 at 21:16 by Simon Kimber

Back in 2003, for an undisclosed six-figure sum, Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant were persuaded to resurrect everyone’s favourite worst boss, David Brent, for one final outing.

Microsoft commissioned the two short management training films to show employees “how not to do it”, with Gervais only agreeing on the condition that they never be made public.

He was probably being more than a little optimistic, but back then he wouldn’t have been betting on YouTube being the internet behemoth it is today and few will be surprised to hear that the online video sharing giant has played no small part in these videos coming to widespread public attention.

While some of the original posts of the videos have been “Removed at the request of the copyright holder” it appears that numerous little eye-patched scallywags are uploading them again just as quickly.

We could offer you a link to download them, but obviously that would be disrespectful and we could not possibly condone that sort of behaviour.  Just as we could not possibly condone you going to www.youtube.com and typing David Brent Microsoft into the search box. That would just be naughty. You really shouldn’t do it. No.

Update: Well as this article was being written the YouTube copyright clampdown continues, so we should take this opportunity to say that we would also definitely not condone you going to video.google.co.uk and searching for David Brent Microsoft. Don’t do that either.
