Those Pesky Wiretaps Deemed Illegal
Friday, August 18th, 2006 at 12:33 by Adam WilliamsPresident Bush’s “War On Terror” took a blow yesterday when his personally authorised wiretapping program was deemed illegal.
Judge Anna Diggs delivered the smackdown, commenting that “It was never the intent of the framers [of the constitution] to give the president such unfettered control, particularly where his actions blatantly disregard the parameters clearly enumerated in the Bill of Rights”
An appeal is pending, of course, as the Bush Administration are claiming they are right in what they are doing, and that it is necessary - something the American Civil Liberties Union (and, seemingly, most of the American public) strongly disagree with.
So, strike one to the ACLU - but this one could run and run.
